NORTH MYRTLE BEACH, SC (WMBF) – A program designed to bring green, eco-friendly wind turbines to North Myrtle Beach is continuing to grow.

“I’m amazed at where we stand right now,” said Greg Duckworth, a city councilman and member of the North Strand Coastal Wind Team. “We went from literally a pipe dream to here we are talking about the nitty gritty details.”

Members of the team presented their latest updates to North Myrtle Beach City Council on Monday. They’ve announced plans to build seven small wind turbines at beach access points to help people power golf carts.

“There are more opportunities with this,” Duckworth said, noting the small turbines would be an example of wind technology and industry that could come to the Grand Strand.

“It’s a very entrepreneurial industry right now,” said NMB Chamber President Marc Jordan.

The group is also working with colleges and universities across the state to further wind technology growth.
