The North Strand Coastal Wind Team is pleased to announce our newest team member, Matthew Willis. We look forward to working with him to meet our goals and advance the team’s vision.
Matthew Willis holds a Masters of Science from California State Polytechnic University, Pomona where his research focused on wind energy in the urban environment. Over the course of Matthew’s career he has worked as an ecological consultant for NASA in Moffett Field, CA, involving carbon flux analysis of a wildfire using remote sensing in Okanogan National Forest, WA. Shortly after working with NASA Matthew began working as an Environmental Scientist for NOAA in Long Beach, CA, deriving a cost plan for the recovery of Steelhead Salmon, as well as outreach to stakeholders, and evaluation of electromagnetic fields of transmission lines from wave energy converters (WEC). As an avid surfer and native North Carolinian, the environment and protection of natural resources has been a central focus in Matthew’s dedication in pursuing his passion for alternative energies in the built environment. Future plans involve focused work in the southeast and pursuing a PhD in wind energy research.
