CHARLESTON, S.C. — Government leaders, researchers and environmentalists are discussing the potential for developing wind energy off the South Carolina coast.

They talk with reporters on Thursday to discuss a new National Wildlife Federation report on developing offshore wind energy.

Representatives of environmental groups will join state Sen. Paul Campbell and Nicholas Rigas, the director of renewable energy for Clemson University’s Restoration Institute in North Charleston. That’s where the school is building a wind turbine test facility.

The discussion centers on the potential for offshore wind development and what it means to the state economy in terms of creating jobs.
